Afghanistan

Help a Marine Out….

“This weekend, a Marine with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines returned home to Camp Lejeune from Afghanistan. Two days later, on Valentine’s Day, his house burned down. He was able to get himself, his wife, and his 20-month-old daughter out of the home safely. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the house burned to the ground, and the family lost everything.”

This taken from a post at Cassy Fiano

At least his family is safe!!! But – they are in need of everything. If you can help, hop on over to Cassy’s place to read the full article and see what you can do to help. Thanks!!!

Coming Home – A Documentary

You are invited to the Premier of Coming Home a Documentary about Sgt Jesse Cottle United States Marine.
It will screen Sun. Jan. 30th at Timberline Church 2908 Timberline Rd. Ft. Collins 80525.
The doors open at 1:30 and the film is at 2:00.  No cost.  It’s about 40 min long.
On July 19th, 2009 Jesse was seriously wounded in action in Now Zad, Afghanistan while on patrol with his EOD team and a squad from 2/3 G Company.  Unfortunately, the Taliban found out EOD were using metal detectors to locate and disarm their IED’s (improvised explosive devices).  That said, the Taliban figured out how to make IED’s with no metal in them.  During the aforementioned patrol, Jesse was struck by a no-metal-IED and sustained bi-lateral amputations due to the  severity of the blast.  Jesse’s EOD team quickly rendered aid and med-evac’ed him to a Blackhawk helicopter where he was flown to the hospital in Bastion, Afghanistan.  From there he went to Bagram, Afghanistan, then to Germany and on to Bethesda, Maryland.  His medical team there was excellent and Jesse successfully made it through six surgeries over his travels.  Jesse was then flown to the Naval Medical Center San Diego where he went through rehabilitation and prosthetic training.

Medal of Honor

jared_monti01

I really wanted to write an article about Army 1st Sgt Jared Monti, but Daniel Russ over at Civilian Military Intelligence Group says it better.

It is to bad that, as a country, we see fit only to honor men like this after they are dead.

Rest in Peace 1st Sgt. and Thank You for Your Service.

Welcome Home Jesse

Marine SSgt. Jesse C. is coming home to Fort Collins for a brief visit today. He was injured in Afghanistan in July and will be home for a week to see his Aunt Teri married. Learn more HERE.

Welcome Home, Jesse and Thank You for Your Service.

********************************************************************

We welcomed Jesse home in fine style with a Marine Corps League Bugler and a Patriot Guard Escort.  Thank you to the PGR, The Marine Corps League and Auxiliary and all the kind passers by who stopped to cheer for Jesse  as he got off the elevator.  The motorcycle escort to the hotel was awesome and there were more wonderful people there who gave Jesse a rousing welcome.

The best part was when one of the PGR guys gave Jesse a ride on his bike. It was quite a sight, with the big American Flag whipping in the breeze!!

Welcome Home Marine and Thank You!!!

Gone

US Army Sergeant First Class Kevin Dupont died today from wounds suffered when his Humvee was struck by an IED, on March 08, 2009.  I did not know Kevin or his family, but I am mourning the loss of a good man, we are less for his going.

R.I. P. Sir, and Thank You.

Kevin served two tours in the Marines, then joined the MA Army National Guard. Blackfive has the complete story, something that was not, to my knowledge, reported in any of the “major” newspapers. It is up to us to Honor and Remember.

Medal of Honor Day is today

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Question- Can you name the five Medal of Honor recipients from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan? If you ask most people you will get a blank stare. They are more likely to be able to name the contestants on Dancing with the Stars or American Idol.

Paul Ray Smith

Michael Murphy

Jason Dunham

Michael Monsoor

Ross McGinnis

Go read about these Heros. Our country is poorer for their loss, but richer because they did live. R.I.P.  Gentlemen.
