HR 45 – Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 (Introduced in House) Here’s part of it below….My comments inserted.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

(a) Findings- Congress finds that–

(1) the manufacture, distribution, and importation of firearms is
inherently commercial in nature;
Duh, it’s called capitalism.

(2) firearms regularly move in interstate commerce;
So do vegetables.

(3) to the extent that firearms trafficking is intrastate in nature,
it arises out of and is substantially connected with a commercial     transaction, which, when viewed in the aggregate, substantially affects interstate commerce;
Definition – Trafficking
In general, carrying on a disreputable or illegal commercial activity, such as sale of banned substances. Guns are not illegal or disreputable. Unfortunately, they will be banned if the Constitution shredders have their way.

(4) because the intrastate and interstate trafficking of firearms
are so commingled, full regulation of interstate commerce requires the
incidental regulation of intrastate commerce;
God forbid the government can’t regulate and tax our every move.

(5) gun violence in the United States is associated with the
majority of homicides, over half the suicides,
and two-thirds of non-fatal violent injuries;
Homicides are committed by criminals. Criminals don’t obey the law. What makes Congress think they will pay any attention to this particular law? Suicides are a tragedy, but what makes anyone think a law will make someone bent on killing him/herself  NOT do it? I believe suicide is already illegal, go ahead – prosecute that one!

(6) on the afternoon of May 10, 2007, Blair Holt,
a junior at Julian High School in Chicago,
was killed on a public bus riding home from school
when he used his body to shield a girl who was in the
line of fire after a young man boarded the bus and started shooting.
About 115 people die every day in vehicle
crashes in the United States — one death every 13 minutes.
Perhaps we should ban cars. We already register them, as you can see it really helps cut down on the deaths!

But, What does it mean?…….

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

The Supreme Court has not conclusively interpreted the Second Amendment since its ratification in 1791. The basic issue is whether the amendment protects an individual’s right to own guns or whether that right is tied to service in a state militia.

The politicians who advocate that the individual has no right to own a gun (bear arms) mights sing a different tune if they weren’t allowed to have armed bodyguards. But, they think they are special
