legislation

Legislate that, you idiots

“One of the greatest delusions in the world is the hope that the
evils in this world are to be cured by legislation.”
Thomas Reed, 1886.

Not content with just mortgaging our own future and that of our kids, our government in it’s great wisdom eternal stupidity has managed to put the grandkids in the (sinking) ship, too.

Please explain to me just how stupid you have to be to sign something you haven’t even read? God knows what is in the “stimulus” bill, because our lawmakers (and I use the term loosely) certainly don’t.

At this point, information on just what is in this  bill POS is unavailable. There are 485 amendments, most of which information is not available on, either.

However, I find these to be of interest:
S.Amdt.107 Fail
Prohibiting direct or indirect use of funds to fund the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).

(Can’t let Present BO’s favorite organization down, now can we?)

S.Amdt.140 Fail
To provide greater accountability of taxpayers’ dollars by curtailing congressional earmarking and requiring disclosure of lobbying by recipients of Federal funds.

(What, accountability, why the next thing you know, those peasants  will want to have a say in what we do…)

.2S.Amdt38 EPIC FAIL To ensure that the $1 trillion spending bill is not used to expand the scope of the Federal Government by adding new spending programs.

By now, I don’t know whether to laugh or puke.

Screwing us over one database at a time.

HR 45 – Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 (Introduced in House) Here’s part of it below….My comments inserted.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

(a) Findings- Congress finds that–

(1) the manufacture, distribution, and importation of firearms is
inherently commercial in nature;
Duh, it’s called capitalism.

(2) firearms regularly move in interstate commerce;
So do vegetables.

(3) to the extent that firearms trafficking is intrastate in nature,
it arises out of and is substantially connected with a commercial     transaction, which, when viewed in the aggregate, substantially affects interstate commerce;
Definition – Trafficking
In general, carrying on a disreputable or illegal commercial activity, such as sale of banned substances. Guns are not illegal or disreputable. Unfortunately, they will be banned if the Constitution shredders have their way.

(4) because the intrastate and interstate trafficking of firearms
are so commingled, full regulation of interstate commerce requires the
incidental regulation of intrastate commerce;
God forbid the government can’t regulate and tax our every move.

(5) gun violence in the United States is associated with the
majority of homicides, over half the suicides,
and two-thirds of non-fatal violent injuries;
Homicides are committed by criminals. Criminals don’t obey the law. What makes Congress think they will pay any attention to this particular law? Suicides are a tragedy, but what makes anyone think a law will make someone bent on killing him/herself  NOT do it? I believe suicide is already illegal, go ahead – prosecute that one!

(6) on the afternoon of May 10, 2007, Blair Holt,
a junior at Julian High School in Chicago,
was killed on a public bus riding home from school
when he used his body to shield a girl who was in the
line of fire after a young man boarded the bus and started shooting.
About 115 people die every day in vehicle
crashes in the United States — one death every 13 minutes.
Perhaps we should ban cars. We already register them, as you can see it really helps cut down on the deaths!
